Hush Puppy Music Coop Speaks on Bringing Community Together at the Mississippi Arts Commission Conference
Hush Puppy Music Coop’s founders, Dan Splaingard and Scott Barretta, were proud to represent Greenwood’s vibrant music community at the Mississippi Arts Commission Conference in Jackson on October 15-16. Joining the panel for “Community Concerts,” Dan and Scott shared insights from their work with Hush Puppy, discussing the power of music to bring people together and the profound impact of a thriving local music scene.
Joining them on the panel were other music visionaries from Mississippi and beyond: Peggy Brown from Jackson’s Blue Monday, Brian Walker from Central Mississippi Blues Society, and John Mohead from Delta Rising. Sharon Yazowski, the President and CEO of the Levitt Foundation, shared her extensive experience supporting free live music venues around the country and the positive social impacts of free, accessible concerts in communities big and small.
Together, the panelists addressed a packed room of music lovers, artists, and community organizers, discussing how concerts can transform local spaces, build community connections, and support the arts. Dan and Scott spoke about Hush Puppy’s journey in Greenwood and the ways their mission has fostered community, inspired creativity, and enriched the lives of attendees from across the Delta region.
As Hush Puppy Music Coop continues to grow, we’re thrilled to have opportunities like these to connect with and learn from others in the industry. We thank the Mississippi Arts Commission for this platform and look forward to many more community concerts in Greenwood!
